Campagnolo Centaur Review
Campagnolo have been designing and distributing high quality bike components since 1933. Campagnolo have always had one aim and that is to produce advanced products with enduring quality, this aim has been undoubtedly achieved with the Campagnolo Centaur chainset. Campagnolo’s latest chainset has been completely redesigned to create an integrated design, with technical specifications including a carbon fibre crankset which weighs just 656 grams; this is dramatically less when compared to other chainsets. The ultra Drive chainring offer a new design featuring eight pins which allow the chain to shift easily. The M.P.S chainrings also provide fast and accurate shifting at all times. Impressively, the Centaur features the Ultra-Torque type bottom bracket system; this unique system has a solid feel whilst remaining extremely light and narrow whilst maintaining maximum rigidity. This has been created by positioning the bearing outside the bottom bracket shell; the larger axle diameter has also resulted in creating greater axle rigidity. Additionally, the permanent conjoin of the semi-axles of the bottom bracket to the crackset arms has made an extremely ergonomic chainset. The redesign of the chainset has reduced the lateral dimensions of the axle which has ended the amount of irritating contact with the ankle when pedalling. Furthermore, the new Power Torque System bottom bracket is easy to self assemble for cyclist who want to enjoy the benefits of the chainset quickly without the hassle of spending hours in the garage. More importantly, the high rigidity of the bottom bracket provides efficient power transmission. There are a few weaknesses to the chainset, but the only noticeable weakness is that it doesn’t possess a corrosion resistant finish; this means that the chainset will require regular inspections and cleaning to maintain its existing original high machine finish. The Campagnolo Centaur requires b.b with L.111mm and CT Front derailleurs. Overall the Campagnolo Centaur looks great, is reliable and offers very precise shifts throughout its ratios.
